Jerrid started his TV career in 2002 at the NBC affiliate in Sioux Falls, SD. Over the next 12 years, he climbed the ranks earning a position at KARE11, a long-time powerhouse station in Minneapolis, MN.
In 2014, after much contemplation and prayer, Jerrid left his thriving, high-profile career. It was a move that came as a surprise to many people, including some of his family. But, it was apparent to Jerrid that God was leading him in an entirely different direction; out of TV and the big-city, into a much simpler, quieter lifestyle.
With a tentative plan to head back to where it all started in Sioux Falls, Jerrid instead found himself jobless and on the brink of an identity crisis. Through a chance phone call from his soon-to-be future boss, Ben Taatjes, Jerrid began the process of finding his true identity and purpose, which has lead to his amazing testimony which he now uses to inspire thousands of people to begin “Livin’ the Dream.”
The Star Tribune in Minneapolis did an article explaining more of his story back in June of 2015. (Click on picture to read the article)
A New Start
Shortly after getting married and moving to Phoenix, AZ in 2007, Jerrid stumbled upon Dave Ramsey’s book, The Total Money Makeover. Overnight, a passion for personal finances developed and changed the course of his new families’ life.
Fast-forward 7 years to a now jobless Jerrid, Ben Taatjes of Taatjes Financial Group followed a hunch after hearing Jerrid speak at a fundraiser and gave him a call. Searching for the right man to help market his business, motivate people with their lives and finances, and inspire people to live for "True Wealth" lead him to Jerrid.
Although Willmar was not in the plan, Jerrid's own vision of "Livin' the Dream" collaborated so well with Ben's business mission that he knew the move was the next step. December 2014 marked the beginning of a very new and different career for Jerrid; Financial Coach, Marketing Specialist and Business Developer for Taatjes Financial Group.
On the speaking tour
Shortly after leaving his TV career, people started inviting Jerrid to speak at their events. "At first, I had no idea what I was doing. I just went on stage and told my story - no script, no outline...no point. I really feel sorry for those first few groups that heard my initial message," laughs Jerrid.
But as the opportunities grew, Jerrid quickly began honing in on his presentation using his life and experiences to shed light on living with purpose and the importance of properly handling your money.
In only a few years, Jerrid has traveled all over the region speaking to well over 100 groups and companies, big and small. Jerrid finally feels as though he is fulfilling his calling, using his speaking as a way to impact people and change lives.
Podcasts and radio work
Besides speaking, Jerrid has continued to utilize his broadcasting background through radio and podcasting. In 2016, he launched "Two-Week Notice", a podcast spotlighting people that felt compelled to abruptly quit good jobs. It ran two seasons for a total of 20 episodes.
In 2017, Jerrid started "Repurposed". This podcast is based on Ben Taatjes' book, "Repurposed: The Untold Story of Retirement in America" where Ben encourages retirees to walk into a life of greater purpose. Jerrid teaches and inspires listeners to live a life of purpose, meaning and impact. Hear stories of how authors, professionals, and every day people have discovered their purpose in unusual ways and how they've left an impact on society.
